[pct-l] Wrightwood CA

Who are the trail angels on Section D in Wrightwood? I might be visiting there in the near future with Rattlesnake. We want to drop in and say thanks for the trail support.

Thanks, Switchback

Hi Miriam
I was at Tuolumne Meadows when Hidalgo hiked out. Some of the others there
(Batteries Included and co.) saw the bag and assumed it belonged to him, so
Batteries asked Tarzan to take it since he was next to leave, thinking he'd
catch up to him. I think he was only an hour or two behind Hidalgo...sounds
like he didn't catch him. You may be able to send an email to Tarzan, since he
has a pocketmail and is posting a journal. Try www.pcthike.org

suggestions?

Thanks.

Went on a day hike from the I-80 PCT trailhead south to Roller Pass just
past Mt Judah and back this Monday. The PCT was still under a little snow
near Roller Pass, but I didn't go farther south. It's incredible to think
that the pioneers pulled their wagons up Roller Pass in the 1800s.

I saw several climbers on the cliffs above highway 40 above Donner Lake and
I encountered about a dozen hikers near Mt Judah. Most of them appeared to
be day hikers, but there was one Nobo that I think could have been a
thru-hiker. I think he could have been a thru-hiker because he was moving
with a certain economy of motion and had enough environmental matter on his
clothing to indicate he had been out for a while. He had on khaki zip-offs,
an orange shirt, and what appeared to be a Gossamer Gear pack. I would have
said more to him, but by the time I turned around and saw his ultra light
pack he was far from me. If I think a person is a thru-hiker I will stop
and talk to him, if possible.

I was just wondering. How far north are the Nobos now. I don't read the
list every day so I may have missed some information, for which I apologize.

My relatives are going to be finishing up the Oregon Section (South to
North) of the PCT at the Bridge of the Gods and I was wondering how some
of you obtained transportation to one of the major cities other than
hitch hiking. Is there a Greyhound or some shuttle service to get them
to a car rental company?

Thanks for the assistance,

Alan

No, no, no.  The backpacker's prayer is;

"Oh, Great Backpacker in the Sky, please don't let me die with my boots on"
Strider
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I've told my friends, if I keep pursuing my never ending dreams of
wilderness adventure, I will die happy and with my backpack on. And last
month a backpack was retrieved from Evolution lake with the owner still
attached. Is it an omen, a dream fulfilled, a prayer answered, or only the
end of one hiker's adventures? I can only hope and dream I will hike until
I die; and I hope this hiker found his peace and will hike the Sierra and
Evolution Basin forever with the rest of us mortal dreamers...Hikon!

No Greyhound at Cascade Locks. Should be an easy hitch to Portland.

Just got back from Tuolumne Meadows today. H and Whistler hiked north out
of Tuolumne about noon today, with two others whose names, sadly, I failed to
get. Crossed Donahue Pass with Cookie Monster yesterday. He is staying a
couple of days in Tuolumne. Remy and Heather left Tuolumne a couple of days
ago, as did Thirsty Girl and Trail Ninja. Several others are a couple of
days south of Tuolumne. The above mentioned mostly ( except Cookie Monster)
left KM on the 19-21 of June. He left the 24th.

Little late on the cheese thing, but just got back from Donahue Pass. Take
whatever cheese you like. I like sharp cheddar, personally, and Swiss. In
three days it will be oily and darker in color but still good. I have *never*
had any kind of cheese go bad in three days.... but maybe don't take cottage
cheese...Har

Depends on when you need it. I'll be around after August 8th. Can transport
to PDX from Cascade Locks.

Alan and others who are asking about this,

Greyhound use to have a bus that stopped in Cascade
Locks, but it seems to be no longer running.

Another option is to catch the Skamania County Fixed
Route Service. You can catch it either at the Rock
Creek Center in Stevenson or the City Entrance in
North Bonneville. It might have stops in between (like
the north end of the Bridge of the God's?).

This bus runs 3 times a day from this area to the
Transit Center-Fisher?s Landing in Vancouver,
Washington. From there it should be easy to get
another bus across the river into Portland.

For more info check out:

http://www.gorgetranslink.org/ska_fr.html

or call: 509-427-9466.

Let us all know how this works out by posting any
more info you find out and posting what your relatives
experience with this service.

SuperDave says in his trailjournal for Monday, July
11, 2005:

"We crossed Highway 88 this morning at Carson Pass
where there is a visiter center and a phone. The
people running the visitor center were very kind. One
woman gave us some sweet rolls. In the PCT trail
register at the visitor center, the entries so far
this year have been:
June 10 Squeaky
June 27 Tattoo Joe
June 28 Dave and Michele Toms
July 3 David Horton
July 7 Piper and Jewel Thief
July 10 Patch and Zip
July 10 Smiley
July 11 (today) Kelly, Mortal Dave, and me. "

So there you have the front running baker's dirty
dozen.

      Rob

I ran into one of these guys at the A16 - PCTA sponsored talk about climbing
Whitney a few months ago. He and I spoke about some of the pitfalls and
learning curve of putting on such an event and what I had learned from the
beginning of the ADZPCTKO. He mentioned that he was beginning the PCT Trail
Days
event this year and that it would be held this week.

The passion for the trail is beginning to spread like wildfire.

We attended the ADZPCTKO in Lake Moreno, CA, and AT Trail Days in Damascus,
VA but not the Tahoe Trail Days... we will be displaying our products at the
