Chuck-
I would also endorse the Pentax Optio43WR. I just got
one for my upcoming hike...needed something H20 proof
after destroying my camera from water damage on the
AZT last fall. It is a really sleek little camera and
the user interface is very simple (icons!) and
straightforward. There is a newer Optio on the market,
but I searched until I found the older style (boxy,
black) because it has a viewfinder and the new one
does not. Saves major battery life.
