I totally agree with RoyRobin. If you can imagine it, then you can do
it! In fact, if you get Ray Jardine's book and lighten your pack
substantially, you may be able to go more than 10mpd. I did two
200-mile hikes this summer. One using conventional methods and a 50lb
pack. The other hike I used Jardine's methods and a 17lb pack. It was
actually easier to walk 20+ miles per day with 17lb than it was to walk
12-15 miles per day with 50lb. I didn't like ALL of Jardine's
suggestions, I took what I liked and left the rest. I don't know what
your circumstances are, but perhaps you could benefit by reading his
book, if you have'nt already done so. In fact, if I remember correctly,
you live in Houston. I also live in houston and would be more than
happy to loan you my copy of the book.
I think its great that you are not letting your ailment or others define
you. GO FOR IT!
