[pct-l] Sierra Snow Entry Prediction
Another data point....
I just returned from a ski tour into Tuolumne Meadows over Tioga
Pass. Over the weekend we saw about two feet of new snow fall.
Another three feet were predicted for the storm from Monday night
through mid-day Thursday.
In the Meadow, snow is above the bottom of the roof rafters at the
store and Post Office. The ski hut, which serves as the campground
office in the summer, the snow is higher than the roof on the north
side, and almost that high on the south side. Last year, I was told,
the snow just reached the bottom of the hut's windows at its maximum.
The ranger said that it could be as late as the third or fourth week
of June before highway 120 opens for the summer.
Driving back west over Echo Summit, it looked like the new layer of
snow was at least 2 ft tall on top of the previously plowed layer.
