[pct-l] ELR to Ashland



As others have said, every year is different. You will be starting just
after most thru-hikers go through. Chances are you will not have any snow at
all anywhere. I've been told that permits are not needed through Desolation
Wilderness if you are going on the PCT as a thru-hiker (unless that has
changed) - and that would be the only place you need one (unless you pass a
self-registration post). If you want a permit, get it from the PCTA.
Mosquitoes: in 2000 we were lucky and didn't have many from Echo Lake
north - nothing needed. But, who knows what it will be like in 2004. I'd
carry some mosquito dope.
