[pct-l] uppity hikers are part of the problem - oh yes - not

Steve
I too am a motorcyclist using a motorcycle to dayhike the PCT leaving it at
the trailhead I am hiking to then hiking there riding back along the roads.

I never advocated "shooting", or imploying the other extremely violent
measures you mentioned against OHVer's .

As for repairing damage done by OHV mis-users most of it is done by
volunteers (of which I am one), I see what the forest service does and I can
tell you with personal knowledge it ain't much. The only time I have EVER
seen someone from the forest service do any trail work was over along the
PCT it valley segment near the Mojave river forks dam.

I am not anti multi-use I am anti mis-use, it is public land and I fully
respect the right for others to use it as the managers permit, but when the
managers don't do their job I get steamed. When I went to the Ranger Station
to notify them about the ATV in the gully I told the Ranger manning the desk
I was hiking the PCT from Agua Dulce to Bouquet Cyn Rd and noticed a lot of
very recent motorcycle traffic on the trail, he said "Oh that's too bad"
that really ticked me off! I told him "I didn't come here for sympathy, I
came to make a report about this activity and give you the location of an
abandoned ATV", he then scurried into the back and got the OHV officer for
the area., I then told him the precise location of it and again complained
about the OHV traffic on the trail, this is when he told me they where
trying to get the LA County Sheriff to keep OHVer's off the forest land,
it's the forest services responsibility not the LA County Sheriff's and
waiting for them to do something is a fools errand.
