People will spend hundreds of hours to save 10 buck on a computer, then
bitch about how cheaply it is made.

However, I suspect that a backpack equipment supplier needs to sell
equipment to people who never use it to be profitable. Don't laugh! That is
the secret behind selling books. Most books sold are never read. In the case
of tents, the manufacturer needs to sell tents to someone "planning" to go
backpacking, or maybe someone who will do a one overnight Scout trip.
Backpackers in general, and thru hikers in particular, are far to cheap to
be a good market. Therefore, we to "Get what we deserve", products designed
to sell to people who will spend money.
