[pct-l] Goodyear welds and boots

After reading post of One Sport boots ( or Montrail now called ) I must add to
my dislike of cemented hiking boots in general.Glued boots are made not
because there better, it,s because there CHEAPER and easy to mass produce. Do
yourself a favor and buy a boot with a Goodyear Weld .( stitched not glued )
These boots rarely fail and can be resoled two or three times by any small
time cobber without being send to the factory. Old time PCTer,s Hiked to
Burney where many hade their heavy hikers resoled. Danner still makes good
stitched boots which are lighter than boots of yesteryear. (So do a few other
companys ) Bottom line is don,t be duked by advertising by big name companies
claims on cemented boots. I had a pair of Vasque sundowners ,great boot but
sole only last 500 miles ( soft as gum ) . You get tired of mailing these back
and forth plus the second and third soles are not glued as good as the
original ones. Now I stick to Danners, Workmanship is definitely a thing of
the past. Old boots were like a good saddle and just as hard to brake in. If
you boots are made in far east, here,s a tip! BUY four pair. Monte
