Just jumping in here on the subject of charity hiking.  One aspect troubles me, especially prevelant in the _____-a-thon (skate, ski, swim, bowl, bike you name it) arena.  How much better for people for people who wish to help a cause to actually do so, rather than do what they like & have others "pay" for it.  Biuld a house, serve at a soup kitchen, hand out coats & blankets, teach English as a second language, clean up a park or trail, volunteer at a shelter, be a big brother/sister/mentor............
