[pct-l] Urgent request for alternatives to John Muir Trail - 3 Scots need advice

By all means, you should go, it will be beautiful.
However plan on some snow/and or rain. Even in good
years, one should plan for wet, cold weather in the
Sierras. Perhaps you will pass us as we hike around
Touloume Meadows starting July 30, planning to head
toward Vogelsang and Mammoth.
I have been checking the web cams at
www.mammothmountain.com and the snow is rapidly
melting, but it is not going to be totally gone in
August. Look at www.pct2005.com for some pictures and
reports of recent travels in this area. So come with
long underwear, ponchos or garbage bags, and layers to
put on or shed as the weather dictates. Hiking poles
are also recommended.
