[pct-l] DEET & clothing?

I've used 100% DEET on my hikes for a number of years. I put it on my body
and have had no ill effects. A good friend always puts it on his clothes,
never on his body, with no ill effects. Both of us remain unbitten by bugs.
There has been much written (most of it a long time ago) about dangers of
using it on your body, but I don't remember what they were or if they were
speculative or tested or whether it varies with the person, but I've told
you my experience. As far as clothing goes, I think it depends upon the
material. My experience had been the following: the writing on the outside
of the container it comes in, is gone quickly after a few spills. My Swiss
Army knife outer casing has been eaten away by this stuff. I now carry my
bottle , with the writing gone, in a plastic zip-lock type bag. That seems
to remain undamaged.

> That's not what I've heard. I learned it's better to put DEET on your
clothing because then it doesn't sweat off. If you're only using a small
amount, it shouldn't make a bit of difference.
