I always refer people to www.dpreview.com. It is a great place to
browse, learn
about digital photography and has lots of tools to help you select and
compare
cameras by price, features, and so on.
The digital camera market is rapidly evolving so I would wait as much
as you
can to purchase. Right now I'd aim for a 4 megapixel camera with 3-5x
zoom
(note: *ignore* "digital zoom", you want to look for *optical* zoom
specs). If
you have some more money to spend, consider a 5 megapixel camera.
If you already have memory cards, then look for a camera that uses the
same
type of cards you have. Plan to spend money on extra cards. I'd avoid
buying
a single mega-card (don't put all your eggs in one basket) and go with
several
256Mb cards, for example.
I like the Canon AXX series or the Canon Powershot SXX series.
