[pct-l] Shipping/Transporting gear from east to west.

Prior to making my first attempt on the PCT in 2005, I will be flying from 
Norfolk,VA to San Diego,CA sometime around April 20 and was wondering if any 
has any suggestions regarding the following questions:
1. Will TSA/airport security allow me to put my gear-filled pack inside of a 
box after they inspect it in order to protect from damage/theft during 
transport?
2. What method is best for shipping items such as knives, fuel 
bottles(empty/clean), ice axe, crampons, etc. from the east coast to the 
west coast?
