[pct-l] DEET - where?

I'm a mosquito magnet. While I didn't need too much deet in the southern
section of the trail, I did use it occasionally. What I needed more was a
mosquito headnet. The gnats were horrible at times and if you use hiking
poles, trying to swat at them can get downright dangerous. ;-)

A headnet made of noseeum netting is overkill and much too warm to wear.
Find one designed for mosquitos - the holes are bigger and allow much more
ventilation but still allows you to keep hiking without regard for the
gnats.

I can't compare the southern section to the morth northerly areas. I got
off the trail just before Whitney.
