[pct-l] Desert Trekking

For a great read of trekking on foot across brutal desert by learning to live 
off of the land and every miniscule element of nourishment, read "The Burning 
Shore" by Wilbur Smith (fiction set into historical fact).  In it a young 
French woman is marooned on the western shore of northern Africa and is taken in 
by two natives who show her how to live off of the land and survive in brutal 
circumstances and environment.  They cross the desert on foot using incredible 
strategy.  It makes hiking the PCT seem like a cake walk and makes me guilty 
that I don't know all of the edible flora and fauna.  Christine and Monte, I 
need some lessons!
