See http://www.co.kern.ca.us/roads/kernregionaltransit.asp for traspo from Bakersfield. The East Kern Express takes you to Tehachapi or Mojave. The Lake Isabella route connects to another bus as far as Onyx if you're going to/from Walker Pass. There is a airporter from LAX to Bakersfield: http://www.coachusa.com/airporterusa.cfm?location_id=1056

Hi,
There's a Southbound section hiker who I think dropped 2 brand new looking neoprene knee supports in Deep Creek Canyon on May 9th. I pinned them to the post at Highway 173 crossing (just after the torn up paved road) This guy was about 5'5 had a sort of day sack with 'lots hanging' and was clutching a GPS, I expect he'd like to know where they are if anyone sees him headed (more like hobbling) southbound!
Dood left a blue bag with his journal and a roll of exposed film in, somwhere between Pink Motel & white water. If anyone sees or hears of it I guess he'd be more than grateful. I guess the Saufleys would be a good place to send it to. Last saw him languishing in a hot pool about 4 days ago.
The ranger at silverwood park told me that the whole of the park including foot traffic on the PCT was closed! I showed him the water report updated from May 1, he said it was wrong! Anyone have an update as hikers may be turned back if they meet this ranger?
Snow: Any Idea on the earliest date possible to leave KM? I'm at Wrightwood and guess I'll be there at the end of the May. Just wondering if I should take a few more zeros or stay on track?
Thanks, please respond off list as I'm not taking list mail right now.

Not many have made it up to Sec. F yet, but Doghiker hiked it before the ADZ
in mid-April and found all water sources had water. Details at
www.4Jeffrey.Net/pctwater . If anyone has more current info hopefully
they'll post to PCT-L.

I planned out my resupply points on the PCT 2005 trip in December 2003!
(and I have made 1 change to the plan, since then (Hiker Town).
You can call me a Hiking nut, Barley Juice maniac and Bananas for Jesus.

No, you're not nuts. We have to plan this thing way ahead in order to

Call me a nut, but I am working on next year's resupply schedule (yes

Rik, Silverwood State Park website http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=650
says:
"Pacific Crest Trail is open in the park segment for through foot and horse
traffic. HORSES ARE NOT RECOMMENDED north of Hwy 138 to the foot of the Dam.
Restrroms, water and camp facilities are not available in the Park."
However, Ben Schifrin's update says water at picnic area is on, as well as
at ranger station 1/2 mile west of 138.

For this coming summer`s PCT section hike , I was wondering which
section would be ridiculous to even consider doing in late July:
1. N to S Cameron Rd. (526.5) to Walker Pass
or
2. Walker Pass to Kennedy Meadows
Would like to do both and exit over Mt. Whitney via Crabtree Meadows.
Concerned about heat and water supply. Am I nuts?

Well, "nuts" is always relative, isn't it! My thoughts run along these
lines: hot (temps in 90s to 100s), dry, unlikely to find maintained water
stashes, and very likely chance of nearby forest fires blowing smoke through
Walker Pass. That section in late May & early June of '94, a relatively wet
year, was warm, dry, and the spring in Kelso Valley was a muddy stew,
complete with a bovine ribcage. So, yes, you very well might be nuts. Why
are you considering these sections for this time of year?
