In 500 years from now, society will take for granted a huge amount of 
knowledge that we currently do not understand at all or poorly understand.  

Or maybe tomorrow.  My first major in college (1960) was Geology.  We learned 
that mountains were all the result of an ill-understood process called 
isostacy. Plate tectonics, which rolls off of the tongues  of junior high school 
students as easily as Puff Daddy ( well, almost) was an obscure theory, given 
little credence or thought, and put forth by a meterologist, of all things.
