The Mt. Hood Wilderness Boundary is above Timberline Lodge and the
Timberline Ski area. The wilderness boundary is marked on the map as
being on the slope below Crater Rock and above the upper terminus of
the top (Palmer) chairlift.
I have never seen any boundary markers. In late Summer one can see wood
fragments, occasional bolts, a lot of steel cable, and other man-made
objects from below Crater Rock on up. A fire look-out was constructed on
the summit after World War 1, but was soon abandoned. All materials
for the look out were back-packed up, and the area below Crater Rock was
used as a staging area, hence the concentration of debris in this area.
