[pct-l] Milage Question

Thank you all for ALL the GREAT info on this upcoming hike!
This is definitely going to test my endurance and fortitude.
I'm technically doing this solo, but Paul Freiman (another PCT-L poster) will be doing Scissors to Barrel and back on Saturday. I'll see him at some point along the trail.

Had I gone out without all your helpful info, I would be seriously concerned with the extended 10 miles I would have not been anticipating! I now am Psyching myself up for a 50 mile solo journey in one weekend.

Going solo may be the only way I can attempt such miles. At my own pace, I can hike, full ruck, fairly well.
(as I say to my friends "find a nice steady pace...and double it!")
I can go for 9-10 hours a day as well, so I feel confident in making it up to the ridge above and north of Scissors by Saturday night. Sunday sounds like a monotonous maze, I'll be alone with my thoughts, which isn't an altogether a bad thing.

I'll let y'all know how it all turns out Monday!

AsABat, I'll let you know if I find any flowing streams along the way. Doubtful, if what I'm hearing is true. I was expecting something after the latest rainfall. But even a dry trail is a report, right?

There are some very deep gullies at the southern end of this leg. The trail
will contour along one side of the gully until it reaches the bottom, then
contour back out. In some cases these contours can be over a half mile, so
you might walk over one mile to make less than a half mile of progress
north. When I hiked this area southbound, I recall seeing my truck just a
bit ahead, making the trip through one of these gullies, and coming out to
see I was no closer to my truck than I was a half hour earlier. The trail
also contours around the nose of ridges the same way. Sure don't want the
trail to climb or drop at anything less than a constant easy grade!

The sandy flat I mentioned is about nine miles up, about one mile into Map
A12. The third gate is another possibility, but may be to far if coming from
Cuyamaca that day.

I would not count on any water at the Third Gate Water Cache. There was only
a couple quarts in early January. Charlie and his group plan to cache water
there sometime around April 10 or later.
