I often found that if you approached someone (at a trail head, gas station, or grocery store etc) and and explain you're hiking the PCT and need a ride to town/trail, you'll have a better chance of getting a ride. Its harder for them to say no, after they talk to you and you seem reasonable and not not just a bum.
