Hi listers,
First, thanks for all your input on my hiking in a dress/skirt/kilt/MUG
question - like anything, I suppose it's a system I'll have to try out in
advance for fine-tuning. I've scrapped up a few candidate dresses (thanks,
Goodwill!) of varying materials and lengths, so here goes...
I happened across this website: http://www.bulkfoods.com/ and thought it
might be of interest to anyone planning on using maildrops at any point(s)
on the trail... especially if you're nowhere near a whole-foods store (I'm
stuck in Texas for the time being) the prices look pretty good for a wide
array of stuff, including:
Dried fruits: w/ or w/o sulphur or sugar, all-natural, and organics
Nuts: roasted, raw, w/ or w/o salt
Mixes: fruit, nut, seed, trail, snack, gourmet, and combinations thereof
Snack-foods: about 15 different kinds of sesame-stick things, crackers,
roasted seeds & soy nuts, and wasabi/cajun-type spicy mixes
Bulk grains, cereals, pastas - lots of variety
Beans & Legumes: including a few soup mixes
Baking Mixes: listing several varieties of milk, egg, and whey powders
Cooking mixes: listing soup bases, dried vegetables, and tvp
>From what I can see, the shipping's free with a $5 packing charge for any
size order...
On that note: I know most people resupply on-the-way, but I've been thinking
about sending a few key resupplies to dilute the fare of
snickers/pop-tarts/MSG-laced ramen I'm assuming I'll be saturated with... l
have a feeling I'll miss my meusli and tvp and other such "real-food"
staples (no offense to pop-tart connoiseurs...:)
Where would be the best locations for this? This question could maybe also
be phrased: where are the worst spots, as far as the diversity of resupply
options?
Thanks,
**Amy**
