I just finished my Morena Reservoir to Mt Laguna segment this last weekend.
Here's what I know:
Just after crossing the 8 freeway and moving up into the hills towards Kitchen Creek on Saturday, we passed a troop of boy scouts (more of a herd, there had to be at least 50 kids on the trail!). One of the leaders told us about a body that was still in Long Valley because "they" couldn't get to it due to the weather. The weather wasn't particularly bad (it didn't rain on us till after 7pm that night) and these scouts just "heard" about it...
Anyway, we spent the night at Cibbets Flat and made it to Mt Laguna yesterday. The weather was much better Sunday and we saw just a few folks on the trail (and that was closer to Cibbets). When we go to Long Valley and then up into Horse meadow and Mt Laguna we saw no activity on the trail.
I saw the LA Times article and the PCT location cited was near Wrightwood, San Gabriels.
I think someone may have heard about the Wrightwood case and allowed boy scout imaginations to run wild...

KFI radio news today is reporting that a boy scout, hiking the PCT on
Mt. Laguna at about the 6000 foot level, has found two bodies.
Can anyone report more details about this?
