[pct-l] PCT Map Programs Redux

 You wrote that you've found that it is the norm for USGS maps to be
inaccurate.

You asked if anyone know if the DeLorme Topo maps are truly USGS, and noted
that n matter what the
level of magnification used, the maps of Topo do not contain the same
details... as in names... as do the USGS maps.

I've no experience with DeLorme digital topos. Has DeLorme been
unresponsive to your question?

I've some experience with Wildflower Productions' TOPO! (tm) digital maps.
The latter are scanned USGS maps.
Wildflower Productions was acquired by National Geographic a few years ago;
products can be found at REI, etc. under both names. If there is an REI
conveniently located for you, you could do a test drive there and compare
with what the DeLorme software and data are showing you.

Many USGS maps were last field checked and/or edited many years ago, and for
some the last field check was only partial. Man-made features therefore can
be inaccurate. Trails shown may no longer exist, and trails constructed
since field check and edit aren't shown. That limitation has to borne in
mind when using digital maps produced by scanning the USGS maps.
