I saw some, but not enough to warrant an ice axe or cramp-ons. The standard 
disclaimer here is, the upcoming year may be different than when I hiked.

In July, the mosquitoes are everywhere, mostly. Well, Hat Creek Rim, where 
it's dry, may be an exception, but July is mosquito season. Bring DEET.
