[pct-l] Fires in Southern Cal and Vanity Fair

  Just turned on the tube and looks like Southern Cal. is burning up. ( Large 
fire in San Ber. Nat. Forest over 8,000 acres) Is this near PCT? You folks 
need some of the water we got a few days ago in Washington. ( Over 4 inchs in 
one day in Olympia)
   Vanity Fair??? Just found out they own North Face!! Big business buy-outs 
never cease to amaze me. Johnson Wax is now the maker of Eureka Tents. Eddie 
Bauer use to be the premier outdoor clothing store in the U.S. and make some of 
the best down bags and clothing anywhere. ( They provided much of the dwon 
gear for the 1963 Everest Ex. along with tents from Eureka. Now Eddie Bauer is " 
Starbucks with beltloops" . 
   Dick Kelty sold his company in early 80's . Todays Kelty pack compared to 
the old Keltys is like comparing a Huffy bike to a Klein. They both may look 
like Mt. Bikes , but the Huffy is just a bunch of painted pipes with spokes. 
New Kelty's are Wallyworld junk when compared to the old school packs.
