[pct-l] down or synthetic

You can get all types of weather on the PCT: extreme heat, cold (freezing),
snow (hardly ever), rain (especially in Oregon and Washington). But mostly,
it will be dry. You need a good ground cloth and sleeping pad. And if there
is dew or rain, you need some type of shelter. I have only used a down bag
and it has never gotten wet. I always keep it in a good plastic bag plus
stuff sack. And I try not to swim with it (like in stream crossings). I
would not be concerned with using down. Also, there are many fabrics which
work wonderfully as the covers. Some folks sleep in the rain with a bag and
not get wet. But, my bag doesn't have that - still no problems.

So, it is your choice. I've made mine.
