Well my guess is that a future solution for those seeking such a solution is a combination cellular/satellite fone & GPS. You could call home or not as you want/need; and the GPS would give a good location in case S&R was needed. Would still be areas where the device would not function such as under heave tree cover or in deep canyons. Maybe could even be an add in to a palm-type computer. John
