For some years I resided in Banning, which is a few miles uphill/up
freeway from Cabazon.  The view from Banning looking toward Cabazon is a
steep dropoff view of endless desert.  On clear days you can see the
Salton Sea from Banning.  Banning residents have a saying about
Banning.  "Banning isn't the end of the world, but you can see it from
there".
