This is true.  I lost my dog to heat exaustion when I took him mountain biking.  Some dogs will do anything to please their master, even run till they kill themselves.  I had no idea that this would happen because we have another dog that I took biking all the time.  She could go for hours with no problems.  She might lag behind, but I would wait for her and she would catch up.  My labrador was a different story.  He was determined to keep up with me the whole way, and I never realized that he was in trouble until it was too late because he loved chasing me on the bike.  

I would love to take my dog(s) on the PCT, and I still think it sux that they are not allowed in Nat. Parks, but the truth may be that its just no fair to the dog to make him/her thru-hike.
