I passed a group of thru hikers at Sierra City that had a VERY HAPPY golden retriever.
Dunno if the dog made it to Canada or not, but the dog was having a REALLY GOOD time. It was much happier than the thru hikers.
They snuck through Yosemite & SE/KI without a ticket, but it was a very wet/snowy year and there were not many hikers, (or Rangers) around when they went through.
I'd guess that the same percentage of dogs make it as thru hikers: 10%. The only difference the one-in-ten dog needs to be paired with the one-in-ten thru-hiker.
