I want to alert hikers that on two separate trips to outfitters I spoke with
two separate people who had had their packs stolen.  All three of us have
been hiking for many years with no problem.  One was with two other people
and had dropped his pack to go a mile off trail for water, the other was at
a trailhead.  The thieves have hit on a lucrative way to make money with
very little risk of being caught.
