Re: [pct-l] trekking poles study

Well, of course! (How do you spell, "Duh?") Carrying anything - even hiking
poles - uses more energy than not carrying them. Some "experts" should study
more physics and at least try to ask the right questions when they are
concocting their research studies.

What hiking poles do is reallocate your energy expenditure by allowing you to
use your upper body to walk, maintain your balance, avoid injury, .....
They save wear and tear on your back and knees. You can walk further and be
less tired at the end of the day. In addition to saving your life at some
stream crossings (or at least a lot of time) they make good tent poles and
are handy for relocating the occasional rattlesnake. Don't leave the
trailhead without them!
