It was my contention after spending almost 6 months on the PCT that you
could not internalize, i.e.. immerse yourself deeply into the wilderness
such that you stop focusing on cultural amenities and begin focusing on the
beauty and values of the wilderness, in less than two weeks.  Granted, this
is a sweeping stereotype that will have significant exceptions.  Some people
are able to "tune in" faster, some wont ever.
