On the subject of internalizing the wilderness experience, for me, it takes
a few days to get free of the "civilization mindset" and get back into the
"wilderness mindset". Short trips don't give me time enough to shift
perspective.
At 10 days or so, I can tell the change has occurred. When I stay out for 3
weeks or so, I really do what I call "going feral" where my mind is not at
all in the same place it is at home.
I guess you get out what you put in, just like any other experience.
