Do you have the maps?  There is a small lake (tarn) just above Guitar Lake 
that left a 3 hour accent to Whitney and about as close as you want to get 
for decent camping.  One of the prettier campsites I had this year in the 
1300 miles I hiked on the PCT from Mexico I had this year.

Let me know how it goes, my own memory will last a lifetime.

Yup, I'm back after an all too brief time on the PCT, no one told me 
cigarettes were 4 and five dollars a pack!  I'll be back to it soon.  Mt. 
Shasta was was an awesome ending for this year!  I'd be happy to answer any 
questions......
