[pct-l] Re: JMT - PCT Split at Red's Meadow

Dear Karen,

The JMT climbs up the west side (wall) of the San Joaquin River valley and
skips from lake to lake, offering awesome views of the Minarettes, Ritter
and Banner across these lakes. It climbs and loses elevation between each
lake.

The PCT stays on the San Joaquin River course and is a beautiful stretch
with several waterfalls and cascades as well as the views of the large
cascades each coming from Shadow and Garnet lakes. You don't get the views
of the Minarettes but the elevation gain is gradual and constant.

A third trail, called the Ridge Trail, climbs the east side (wall) of the
San Joaquin River valley from Agnew Meadows (just up the valley from Red's)
and offers beautiful views of the river valley, the lakes and the
Minarettes all of the way to 1,000 Island Lake. It climbs steeply at first
and then contours the valley.

There is plenty of flowing water on all three.

Take your pick and enjoy. I don't think any of the three will be a mistake.

IMHO,
