[pct-l] bear canisters

All things considered I've decided to use a canister for my N to S JMT hike
this year. I'm inclined to buy the aluminum one for weight savings. The
Garcia could be opened with a dime. I've heard the aluminum one requires a
screwdriver which would negate some of the weight advantage. Any ideas?
Also the stretch from Vermillion Valley or even the Muir Trail Ranch to
Whitney Portal requires some fairly stiff mileage given the altitude and
climbs involved. Also I don't want to rush through the hike. All this
challenges the canister's capacity even with artful packing. Will
counterbalancing some additional food be likely to work through Evolution
Valley? Is a second resupply over Kearsarge Pass the only alternative?
