The bad news is, that last 5 miles from Hauser Canyon to Lake Morena have a
higher water requirement per mile than the first 15 miles. There is a very,
very steep climb up a south-facing slope out of the canyon. You'll probably
be there in the afternoon when temps are likely to be at the high point.

If you arrive in the canyon and there is no water in Hauser Creek, you may be
facing a critical situation. In a life-threatening situation, it would be
wise to hike east along the road and ask for water at one of the homes beyond
the locked gate.

Keep an eye on your hiking partners. Their judgment may be impaired by
dehydration.
