I think that you will be OK if you make Upper Lyell Base Camp.  This is a
beautiful spot but most people don't camp there because Lower Lyell Base
Camp [at the end of the valley] is so convient. Upper Lyell Base Camp
[10,180'] is past the footbridge just before the ford of the creek. Donahue
Pass is another possibility.

However, there is no place between Little Yosemite Valley and this that is
safe on the JMT.
