[pct-l] Re: Grivel 6-pointers

Just to add to the 6-pointer crampon discussion - I used them on a climb of
Mt. Darwin in August to get up (and down, which got my attention at 5:00
p.m. on the shaded eastish side of the mtn!) a snow-filled chute. Yes, of
COURSE with ice axe! <vbg> They worked fine - definitely better than
4-point insteps because there's more traction in the forefoot. Full
crampons would have been appreciated, but these were definitely better than
not having anything at all.

However, for ambling over suncupped passes in early morning I might want the
4 pointers because they permit the foot to flex, where as the 6-pointers act
more like a rigid crampon and are somewhat tiring.

Ever since I first put on crampons for spring/early summer mountaineering
I've loved 'em. I have no true depth perception (so I can't distinguish the
"flat" places easily...) & they help my feet find stable places in the snow!
