RE: Snow on the JMT. Has anyone gone further than Kennedy Meadows
I'd like to hear from anyone also. One homepage that reports a thru hike
indicates only 7 people signing in so far. Meanwhile, my snow data is all
from the sensors. My summary as of June 7:
1. Elevations around 10,000-10,500' have about 20"-30" [inches of water
equivilent. Double this for approximate snow depth] and are melting at the
rate of 1" per day. This should accelerate in mid-June to 2" per day. I
predict that the trail will be snow free @ 10,000 feet about June 25.
2. Elevations around 11,000-11,500' have about 50" of snow and are just
beginning to melt. I believe that they will melt at an average around 1"
per day leaving 11,000-11,500' with 20" of snow [as water] on July 4.
3. I predict that 11,000-11,500 will be snow free about July 25.
Use these predictions at your own risk. I'd like to get some real data from
someone who is hiking in the area.
