Re: [pct-l] Re: Mail Lead Time

Karl,
Don't quote me, but I believe the only way to get the USPS to forward
packages free of charge is if they've been sent priority or better at the
get-go. I discovered this practice by accident on the AT, when I skipped
a town stop and called their PO to ask if they could return to sender it,
such that it wouldn't just sit in their back room in vain. It was offered
that I could instead have it sent where I needed it (ahead of me), for
nothing extra, but only because an arm and leg had been spent on original
priority shipment. There may also be another problem with non-priority
mail forwards, beyond the extra fee potentially incurred. That being,
you may have trouble getting a PO to do anything with it but let it sit
where it be and rot, without being there in person to prove you're the
one the package is intended for. I had this problem in Hiawassee, Georgia.
The package arrived after I had trucked further along on the AT, and they
wouldn't budge unless I could show up and prove myself to them first.
Eventually, it was sent back to sender, then forwarded by the sender to
where I was. Two month old, y<
melted gummy bears are a letdown of a trail
treat, I'll tell you.
