RE: [pct-l] Horses on the PCT

There is a good article on low impact horse travel in the April '97
Backpacker Magazine.  They pointed out the need for a change in ethic from
cooking in cast iron over a big fire in front of your walk-in wall tent to
light weight no trace camping.  The point of the article is that if
backpack weight gear is carried only one head of stock is needed per
person, thus greatly reducing the impact on the land.
