More and more horsepackers are doing this. Unfortunately it takes time to
educate people and some (both hikers and equestrians) are uneducable. I
have an advantage because I was a backpacker first and have the appropriate
gear and experience to use it. The outfitters are more of a problem because
the customers expect to eat fresh steak, etc. not freeze dried whatever.
Grazing restrictions can complicate the issue with the need to carry horse
food, but the basic principals are sound.
