Mouse,
I missed your suggestion of dog sledding the winter JMT...
I've tried that and the "sierra cement" we get coupled with the steepness of
some of the passes made it too exhausting and impractical. If you want to
break trail for them all day with snowshoes and only get a few miles, then go
for it. In the spring it is far easier as the pack has settled and is more
stable, but still tough in the afternoons (dogs posthole, too!). And for the
most part, dogs can't pull up the steep passes and sure don't like the icy
descents (say of Glenn or Forrester Passes, for instance).
We still have one who goes with us on all of our trips, a wonderful Samoyed
with tons of personality, loyalty, and snow-smarts of his own.
