Can any of the SoBos give a report on the trail conditions between Fobes
and Saddle Junction?
Is the trail across Apache Peak iced yet? I'm hoping to be on the Desert
Divide Dec 3rd & 4th...

Monty,
One Gallon just phoned from Mt. Laguna this afternoon. He is hiking
with Billy Goat and they're planning to be at the border Monday
afternoon (One Gallon's 9-months-on-the-trail date). Shamu's Trainer
and I are going to try to find them this weekend and try to hike big
miles for the first time in a long time. Should be interesting!
Barnyard
P.S. Scariest story was a traumatizing jaunt up a tributary canyon of
Mission Creek that kept getting steeper and steeper. 2' diameter
boulders we climbed were loosely held in place by crumbly sand,
threatening to be kicked loose and bonk the lower of us (me) and send me
to my death. As the climb progressed that wonderful realization dawned
on me, I can't go up and I can't go back either. I was truly screwed!
It was a pretty horendous nightmare but a good lesson for the rest of
the hike about making wiser decisions, and making sure you say, screw
the schedule, turn around, and
deal with a day or two of no food if need be. P.S. others got lost too
in
that upper area of Mission Creek (past the 20 crossing i think) due to a
minor landslide i think (not sure since we were majorly lost!). do any
trail maintenance volunteers know about this spot?
