[pct-l] miles vs. kilometers
Not so - in England "a pint of water weighs a pound and a quarter" - a pint
is 20 fl oz in England - consequently a gallon, being eight pints is
proportionally larger than in the USA - but still doesn't explain why I was
paying over $5 / gallon for gas before I immigrated to California seven
years ago.

Don't forget "a pint is a pound the world around." I'm not sure that old
children's rhyme is really true exactly, but if it is, a gallon would weigh
8 lbs.
