[pct-l] re [pct-I] Super Secrets - Hiking Poles

After reading numerous opinions on the usage of hiking poles I am convinced
that there is no correct way to use them. No offense to Smarty, Girl Scout,
Switchback and the numerous others that have posted. WWFY - Whatever Works
For You. So often with list serves people seem to have a need to express
their way as the right way. This seems especially true on this list.
Remember HYOH. The same holds true for gear choices and the usage of that
gear as well.

Sometimes my preference is to use straps and sometimes my preference is to
go strapless.

I spent 10 days on the AT in Aug-Sept, a few weeks back, and constantly used
my poles with straps -- the correct way as described by Girl Scout -- and
never had a problem hiking from dawn until dusk daily. In fact, I would say
that on those rough trails it enhanced my ability to move faster over the
rocky trails. When I needed to use my hand for something, I simply let go of
the poles, which dangled from my wrist on the straps until I could grab them
again. Definitely the way to go. - Swifty.
