nah, you're not thinking out far enough.  It's really all a plot from 
the right.  Goats are intoduced and the eco left is happy.  Mountain 
lions eat the goats, and the eco folks will say it's nature's way.  The 
lions run out of goats and start chowing down on hikers.  The ecos's say 
that the hikers are invading the lion's territory and deserve to be 
eaten. Eventually the trails are closed for safety, and the land falls 
into disuse.  Enter the logging lobby.
