[pct-l] Baden Powel

Shutterbug,

I'd imagine that you are right about the landslides. I often take Angeles Forest Hwy to Angeles Crest Hwy as a commute alternative. The number of mudslides that happened due to the rain is impossible to overstate -- every single cut in the hills melted like a lava flow onto the highway.

It's an interesting year . . .

Actually the PCT goes less than 1/4 to the top and there is ONLY ONE way to Thrope, Little Jimmys and beyond. That would be to take the ridge which is the PCT. So YES summit but there really is no alterative except for taking the road - which rumor has it that is has had quite a few avalanches.

One suggestion concerning Baden-Powell. The official PCT goes around the
mountain and never reaches the summit. That portion of the trail that goes
around it is very difficult in the snow. Very hard to find the trail.

If I had to do it over again, I would summit the Mt and then rejoin the PCT
on the other side...

Ridge. Rt 2 was closed at Mountain HIgh West so unless they have opened the
road to Vincent Gap I doubt whether much of a trail is blazed to Baden
Powel. Middle of March I did get a report of 5 people attemptped to hike
up Rock Rd to Vincent gap and only one successfully summited BP and skiied
down with a slight injury. So unless the road is open PCTers will be the
first to blaze a trail.
